Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
