Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
