Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
