Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
