Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
