Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
