Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
