Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
