Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
