Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
