Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
