Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
