Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
