Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
