Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
