Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
