Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
