Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
