Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
