Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
