Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
