Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
