Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
