Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
