Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
