Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
