Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
