Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
