Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
